Lisa DeFosse, Licensed Massage Therapist and Reiki Master, realized the importance of the mind-body-spirit connection while working with those in counseling. While a practitioner in a grant-funded program at Maine Behavioral Healthcare in Biddeford and Westbrook, she learned how beneficial bodywork can be to those in talk-therapy. When the program ended, she knew she had to continue to help this population and founded the Healing Tribe. Recently, Bowenwork has peaked her interest as she has seen clients make great gains in few sessions when addressing chronic pain. Lisa believes in the inherit ability of the body to heal itself and provides a safe place for that healing to begin.

My name is Katie Hynes, and I am a licensed massage therapist, clinical social worker, and alcohol and drug counselor in the state of Maine. I have worked for over a decade in the social services field, helping to treat clients with anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use disorders and other concerns. My experience as a clinician has allowed me to develop a certain framework in my work with clients. I enjoy utilizing a strengths based perspective, allowing for clients to experience a non judgmental environment where they can feel safe, heard, and validated.
I came to massage therapy through my own experience of attempting to manage chronic anxiety, and finding holistic practices which were supportive of that. Massage therapy was one of the few things that helped to temporarily quiet my mind, and allow my body to experience the rest and relaxation that it needed. I wanted to delve deeper into the Mind/ Body connection and provide these types of modalities to others which led me to enrolling into massage school at the New Hampshire Institute for Therapeutic Arts in Bridgton, ME. My 750 hour education affirmed for me, my desire to want to help others heal and the importance that the central nervous system has on the body and mind. It really is all connected, and I look forward to exploring new techniques to put into my tool kit!
My goal is to make Lotus Massage Studio a space for clients to receive bodywork where they will feel safe and supported. I want all people to be able to access bodywork and understand that communication is KEY, along with the relationship between the massage therapist and client.

After years of keeping the family business’s books, while raising her three now-grown children, Lynne began her health care career working as a CNA while completing her RN-BSN degree. She worked in Oncology nursing and later transitioned to the Long Term Care industry, becoming a Nursing Home Administrator. Since alternative medicine was so interesting and fascinating to her, Lynne took advantage of the opportunity to pursue this field by completing her Reiki I, II and finally her Third Degree Master Reiki Teacher in 2014. Currently, Lynne enjoys practicing Reiki and would eventually like to supplement her practice by educating others who share her passion for this type of medicine.
